Why we built a browser arcade

Meteoric Creates makes Zeal — a habit journal for meals, water, sleep, and movement. We kept hearing the same thing: people want a tiny win during a coffee break, not another 40-hour RPG.

So we built Meteoric Games: instant-play titles that respect your time. Open a tab, play one round, close the tab. Optional Zeal links turn a cleared stage into a logged glass of water or a stretch — but the games stand on their own.

Design pillars

Three promises behind every Meteoric title — how we decide what ships.

Fast load

Every title boots from a lean canvas shell — no app store, no 200 MB patch. First paint targets sub-second on LTE; game code loads only when you tap Play.

No install

Open a link, play a round, close the tab. Add-to-home-screen is optional — nothing is required beyond a modern browser.

Ad-free gameplay

Ads never interrupt a round — the playfield stays clean. Optional hub sponsorship is consent-gated and separate from scoring; no mid-game interstitials.

Behind the scenes

One dev note per flagship title — how each game was built and tuned.

Meteor Drift

Arcade

Our first shipped title — sketched in an afternoon to prove canvas could hold 60 fps on mid-range phones without a framework bundle. The asteroid field stays procedural so the game file stays tiny.

Play →

Tower Ember

Strategy

Began as a weekend tower-defense sketch; wave pacing came from playtests where people quit around wave six. Tap-to-place paths beat drag-build — it works in phone portrait without fat-finger misses.

Play →

Neon Drift

Racing

Premium endless racer — we wanted speed without particle spam. Ramps are logarithmic, not linear, and near-miss hitboxes are slightly forgiving so skilled dodges register without feeling cheap.

Play →

Pool Shot

Sports

Billiards needed sub-frame collision stability — we rewrote the physics step three times before bank shots felt honest. Cue-ball spin isn’t cosmetic; top spin really changes rebound angle.

Play →

Sling Blast

Physics

Physics overhaul flagship — arc preview uses the same integrator as live shots so what you see is what you get. Tower collapse chains were added last after testers always aimed for the base block.

On the horizon

Experiments we're poking at — not a release schedule.

No dates, no guarantees. Ideas may change or never ship; we'll update this list when something graduates to production.

In the lab

Co-op puzzle mode

Shared-screen puzzles we're doodling on paper — fun in playtests, but timing and scope are still wide open.

Coming soon — maybe
Early sketch

Daily challenge seed

One score seed for everyone each day — design doc only so far; may become a hub feature instead of a new game.

Coming soon — maybe

Async duel rematches

Rematch a friend's local best without live matchmaking — early wireframes only; could be cut if netcode cost is too high.

Player quotes

Short notes from players who treat Meteoric as a coffee-break arcade.

Ember Stack is my two-minute reset between meetings — stack higher, breathe, back to work.

I log water in Zeal after Pulse Lane without feeling nagged. Tiny win, tiny habit.

Tower Ember on hard mode is the only tower defense I finish in one lunch break.

Room codes in Ember Strike turned our remote stand-up into a five-minute arena.

Word Guess on the train — six tries, done. No install, no account.

Neon Drift feels like an arcade cabinet in my pocket. Premium theme was worth it.

What habit links mean

Some games show optional Zeal nudges after play — hydrate, move, or wind-down. They never auto-log anything; they only open Zeal if you tap.

Hydrate

The “hydrate” nudge opens Zeal’s water log — one tap after a round to record a glass. Games don’t track hydration; Zeal does. Skip anytime.

Try water log →

Move

The “move” nudge logs a short walk or stretch in Zeal — not a full workout plan. Pair reflex games with a real two-minute break.

Try workout log →

Wind-down

The “wind-down” nudge links to Zeal sleep logging — useful after calm games like Star Snap. Nothing auto-tracks your sleep from the arcade.

Cosmetic themes

Preview hub palettes — Ember and Moss are free. Midnight, Sakura, and Citrus unlock with Zeal Premium.

Unlock with Zeal Premium

Cosmetic hub themes and an ad-light homepage — through your Zeal subscription, not a separate arcade pass.

  • Cosmetic themes Midnight, Sakura, and Citrus hub palettes — Ember and Moss stay free.
  • Ad-light hub Fewer sponsorship units on the games homepage — playfields stay ad-free.

Optional account sync

Scores and achievements stay on this device until you choose to sync. Sign in to Zeal to attach bests to your Meteoric profile and appear on weekly boards with a public username.

Coming soon

Journal streak → games perk

We're exploring cross-rewards — a logging streak in Zeal could unlock temporary hub perks. Not live yet; games do not read your journal streak today.

  • 7-day journal streak → try a premium theme for a week
  • Monthly logging consistency → temporary ad-light hub

FAQ

Accounts, scores, mobile play, and multiplayer — quick answers.

Accounts

Do I need an account to play?

No. Every title runs in the browser with no sign-in. A free Zeal account is optional — only if you want cloud sync, public leaderboards, or achievements on your Meteoric profile.

What does Zeal Premium change for games?

Premium unlocks cosmetic hub themes and an ad-light hub experience. It is not a separate arcade pass — individual titles are not paywalled.

Is Meteoric Games the same login as Zeal?

Yes. Optional sync uses your Zeal credentials. Games never auto-create a journal entry — habit links only open Zeal when you tap them.

Scores

Where are my high scores saved?

By default, bests stay on this device in local storage. Enter a display name and tap Sync cloud to attach scores to the weekly board.

How do weekly leaderboards work?

Each ISO week has a featured game board plus a combined season board. Sync to compete — your public username comes from your optional Zeal profile settings.

Can I play offline?

Yes, after the first visit. Add to Home Screen — the service worker caches the game shell. Cloud sync and live boards need a connection when you choose to use them.

Mobile

Do games work on phones and tablets?

Yes. Titles use touch, swipe, drag, or on-screen buttons. Portrait and landscape both work — some arcade games feel better rotated.

Do I need to install an app?

No native store app is required. Pin Meteoric Games to your home screen for a full-screen shortcut; otherwise any modern mobile browser tab is enough.

Why is there a sticky Play bar?

On small screens, a sticky Play now bar appears while you scroll the hub so you can jump into the featured game without scrolling back up.

Multiplayer

Which games support multiplayer?

Ember Strike supports real-time online rooms — share a room code, up to six players. Every other title is single-player or same-device hot-seat only.

Do multiplayer rooms need a Zeal account?

No. Ember Strike rooms work with a shared code and nickname — no journal login required. Optional score sync is separate from matchmaking.

Is multiplayer cross-platform?

Yes — any modern browser on desktop, phone, or tablet can join the same Ember Strike room as long as everyone has the room code.

Free vs Zeal Premium

Games perks through your Zeal subscription — not a separate arcade pass.

⌚ Wear OS note

Games never read your watch directly. Pair Wear OS in Zeal Settings — step and workout data can inform move-break nudges that surface reflex titles like Pulse Lane and Neon Drift. Easter egg: beat Pulse Lane with 50+ and check the season board for the “move-break hero” badge.
